(excerpts from TULSA BEACON newspaper article)
PROJECT challenges America to turn to the BIBLE
by Tim Allen
"At a time when millions of Americans are looking inward and upward, the
answer to WWJD(What would Jesus do?) is at hand. Out of the plains of west
Texas, a national (and international) movement has begun.
The Rev. Matthew Murski is a football-player-turned-minister...but he isn't
carrying footballs. As Director of The One Year Bible Project, he is consumed
with a vision: to see America (and many other nations) turn to the Word of God
and establish an intimate (relationship) with the Creator.
'We live in an addicted society. We've got every conceivable habit known to
man...How about a God habit? How about a Word habit?', said Murski who was in
Tulsa recently.
The mission of The One Year Bible Project seems to be quite simple. It starts
with the One Year Bible itself. Published by Tyndale House, instead of being
grouped by Old and New Testaments...like a conventional bible, The One Year
Bible is grouped by dates.
On any particular date, one would simply turn to
the that date (e.g. October 3) and find an Old Testament passage, a New
Testament passage, and also passages from Psalms and Proverbs packaged so that
the (ENTIRE) bible could be read in one year...
A fascinating aspect of the
(One Year Bible Project) is that it involves people at the grassroots level and
gets them (INVOLVED) in the (WORK) of (MINISTRY).
Murski said, 'The bible says
that we are to do of work of an evangelist. The (One Year Bible Project) gives
people the opportunity to do exactly that. Not everyone can or is called to
reach the masses, but we have been commanded to (LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR). The concept
is that (WE ARE RESPONSIBLE) for those around us, those we have relationship
with.'
One Year Bibles are going out all over the country. As a
new person receives a (ONE YEAR) bible, they have the opportunity to contact
(The One Year Bible Project) and request (ONE YEAR) bibles. They, in turn, give
a One Year Bible to those they care about.
'...If a person wants a One Year
Bible, we will put one in their hand...All we ask is that people be considerate
and understand that there are costs involved...if someone donates...that enables
us to cover the costs involved...', added Murski.
Out of this simple idea, a
national (and international) movement is taking shape. (More and more PEOPLE ARE
GETTING INVOLVED) in the vision of the (One Year Bible Project). It all
began with two people in Big Spring, Texas. The Rev. Matthew Murski and Dr.
Howard Hornsby, a well respected chiropractor, saw that this (PARTICULAR) bible
had a unique format and began to sow the One Year Bible(s) into the lives of
family, friends, patients, coworkers, etc.
...Murski said, 'We know the
Word changes lives. It changes hearts. That's what we need in this country today
- changed hearts...If hearts change, behavior will change. (IMAGINE THOUSANDS)
of people in Tulsa, or (ANY) community, hooked on the Word...getting to know God
intimately through His Word. Hearts will change; blinders will be removed.
Strongholds that have held your friends, family...will be destroyed.
And those
very people whose lives are changed are returning the favor by giving the One
Year Bible to those in their circle of influence with a fresh testimony of their
new Word habit and the difference it has made in their life. Here's the bottom
line: the Word works and it changes lives...
Don't be surprised if someone you
know tells you about something that's impacted their life and hands you a One
Year Bible telling you to give it 21 days', said Murski...
(MILLIONS ARE READY
TO TURN TO GOD RIGHT NOW). THIS VISION TRANSCENDS and INCLUDES ALL
DENOMINATIONS). As they read the Word for themselves, people are finding out
that the bible isn't really all that hard to understand. They just haven't done
it consistently. (THERE'S A HUNDRED REASONS WHY THIS IS WORKING).'
WWJD poses
the question, 'What would Jesus do?' At this significant time in our
nation's history, (AN ANSWER MAY HAVE COME). The events in September 2001
have changed the way many perceive life in general.
...Murski said, 'We had no
idea what we were getting into...that people would respond in this way, the need
for God in the aftermath of national tragedy as we prepare for war, that so many
would be looking for God...(looking for CHANGE). But (GOD DID).'"
